Rest and Restoration
The Guiltless Hour
To take rest that is not earned, scheduled around anyone else, or made productive.
- Best time
- Whenever an hour can be protected
- Estimated duration
- 60 minutes
- Pathway
- body
What you'll need
- A door you can close
- A blanket
- Nothing else
The practice
- Step 1. Tell whoever needs telling that you are unavailable for one hour.
- Step 2. Silence notifications entirely.
- Step 3. Lie down. You do not need to sleep.
- Step 4. When the list of tasks arrives, let it pass through without following it.
- Step 5. When the hour ends, rise slowly and notice how you feel.
Atira's reflection
Atira's personal practice: the guilt came anyway, the first several times. I rested through it. It quiets.

Safety considerations
- Persistent exhaustion that rest does not relieve deserves attention from a qualified healthcare professional.
